The video is about 4 minutes long. You can let your children watch with you.

Christmas is becoming less and less to do with Christ, but more to do with consumerism. I can imagine a future where people no longer put up Christmas lights. Rather, children can watch videos of past Christmas lights at home!

China's Environmental Problems

For the past four mounths, I have been volunteering with an environmental NGO group based in Beijing China.

The decision to help was prompted by a four part documentary series on CBC, which shed light on China's current environmental problems. For some more details on this widespread issue, visit Rob's webpage.

Traditional villages which were heavily dependent on fishing and farming are now facing extinction. Manuafacturing factories are springing up everywhere, and they conduct business without following government regulations. The culprit is not only the factories, but also the Chinese government. China has always had a history of corruption and bribery, and the government cannot resist the temptation of making taxes from foreign owned factories. As a result, toxins are released into the rivers and the air.

Protecting the environment really has nothing to do with protecting plants and animals. It has everything to do with protecting humans. People fail to realize that everything is connected. I have heard a lot of people making negative comments about tree huggers, that they go to the extreme. Sometimes, their tactics do seem extreme, and the average person can never understand why some people want to sacrifice so much for a few ferns.

The cascading chain of events from the death of a few ferns may mean the extinction of a village. Villagers who for centuries lived off the land no longer farm or fish. They do not know any other way of life.

The Importance of Comments

If you have a blog and your main goal is to gain readership (rather than making money from ads), then you should take Cat's advice and start commenting on others' websites.

I can't stress how important it is to comment. You can surf the blogs and find interesting posts to comment on, and you will surely see an increase in your readership and overall traffic. I am not just saying this because I offer this service. I think it's something that all bloggers can do on their own.

Normally, for a 'customer', I do 25 comments a day for the 100 comments service. It really doesn't take that long. What you should do is to post your genuine thoughts and not just something like "I like you site, check out mine!". This doesn't work. If you are going to post, at least take the time and read the blogger's articles and take an genuine interest in it. Doing 25 comments takes me about 30 minutes or an hour. It is really a small portion of your day.

You can start by going to the Cat With a Pen website and follow her instructions. It is a really neat way to start your "commenting" campaign. At the same time, you will even end up learning something new everyday by reading others' blogs.

Men's Underwear

Women's underwear gets too much attention, and men's underwear is often overlooked. Aside from Hanes, I can name.......hum....well......I can't name any other brands. Come to think of it, I can't name any other women's underwear brands except for Victoria Secret and Hanes.

N8ivWarriors has just purchased some brand new underwear. Before reading his article, I had no idea that men's underwear can be so complicated. I mean why not? It's presumptuous of me to say that only women have difficulties with underwear.

N8ivWarrior's point is to buy new underwear often! It makes perfect sense. My husband has a sock fetish - he loves wearing brand new socks. Instead of washing old socks, he normally tosses the socks away and just buy new ones. At first, I thought it was just lazyness, but now I know that he just loves the feeling of new socks. I wish he has the same fetish for underwear. The last pair of new underwear he bought was about a year ago, and they are getting that thrift store item look...yuck.

The Dandelions of Television

In case you thought Maureen was only kidding in her article Die Bardy Die, she is back with another one titled Die Brady Die And I Mean It This Time.

In the previous article, she compared the Brady Bunch fever to such endearing things as: phlegm and Legionnaires' Disease. In her new rant, she compared it to dandelions!

I never watched The Brady Bunch when I was young, but I did have the pleasure of watching A Very Brady Sequel. It was my first taste of why some people are such bradymanias. They are just a super happy family....almost to the point of nausea! It was okay in the 70s, I guess, but it just doesn't cut it for the new generation of TV audience.

Every once in awhile, I see something about the actors of the original Brady Bunch on Entertainment Tonight, or a Current Affair, or other entertainment/celebrity gossip shows. Then, I realized that the Bradys is sort of a "filler" - the foods that make you full yet have no real nutrition. It is not a centerpiece, just a filler. When Lindsay Lohan has not lost 20 pounds due to anorexia, or Paris Hilton has not released a new sex tape, you can always count on the Brady Bunch news, shows, or whatever to fullfill your needs.

My thoughts were provoked, what are other dandelions of television? You know, the shows and characters that just won't go away, even after all the sequels, prequels, reunions, sequels to sequels, and Christmas specials? The Brady Bunch definitely ranks very high on my list.

Can you think of any other shows, sit-coms, actors, etc that just won't go away?

Start a Sports Blog

I don't see enough great sports blogs in the blogosphere. Why is this?

I am not a huge sports fan, in fact, I ban hockey in my household. My husband is a huge hockey fan, and the fact that he sits on the couch, screams at the TV, and expect me to go along with it is completely out of the question. Yes, I am Canadian, and yes I don't like hockey; it's an oxymoron, I know...

I do enjoy a good read, so some entertaining articles that a non-hockey fan can relate to would be great. The article doesn't need to be only related to hockey, any sport is great, as long as you can grab my attention for longer than 2 seconds. How about starting an article with "Gymnast On Steriod!", or "Women Eats 50 Hotdogs!"....eating is a competitive sport now, right?

I am tired of hearing baseball, basketball or football players on steriod. It would be more entertaining to talk about one who is not. But, how about steriod use in other sports like swimming or gymnastics, how about writing an article on the German's use of steriod in the Olympics during Hitler's reign, how about the woman who can eat 50 hotdogs?? (I am not sure if this is true, just making a point).

Search Engine Optimization Woes

When I first started blogging, I read everything on the net about search engine optimization. Some people say the success of SEO can determine the future of your website. I realized that the more I read, the more confused I became....so I gave up.

I am not so big on where to put my keyword, whether to make something bold, italic, or how to name the title of my article just to attract more hits from search engines. The search engines probably don't like me, but that's okay. As long as I am having fun blogging, I am not too worried about SEO.

However, with that said, I have no doubt that there are numerous benefits to becoming an expert in search engine optimization. For starters, you can be a step ahead of the search engines and be prepared when the algorithm changes. There is a lot of on-line businesses who look for SEO specialists to help them stay ahead of the competition.

What I know about SEO is very basic. I know to insert meta tags, submit my site to the search engines, and beyond that, everything is a blurr. If you are interested in SEO news and SEO tips, then visit 2BlogSEO for the latest information in the SEO world.

Combating the Blues

Over the past few years, I have found a way to combat the blues - keeping a list of inspirational quotes from various sources.

By far, my favorite one is related to exploration and living a life with no regrets. This quote from always hints to me the correct direction of my life when I am faced with confusion.

Too Much Technology

As I sit here in front of my computer, absolutely MAD at Blogger....how can I have anything positive to say about having technology?

How about, let's take life slow. Recently, I have been reading the 2BlogGadgets blog for Geeks. At first, I was fascinated by the different types of gadgets out there, such as the tools that help you to type with your mind, get drunk without booze, solar powered retinal implants. I mean, how cool would it be to type what you are thinking!!

Then, I started to think about this article - "Around the World in 2 1/2 Hours".

Okay.....why would anyone want to see the world in 2 1/2 hours? Sure it's fast and a little bit cool, but what happened to travelling the world to see incredible sceneries and meet different people. This can never be a substitution for the experience of travelling around the world.

Technology helps us to save time, but it takes away a lot of learning opportunities. Instead of typing with your mind, why not write in journals so that you can practice your spelling. We are becoming very dependent on spelling and grammar checks. Someone just asked me to spell "Contest" the other day!

Differences in Thinking

Do you support having a national language? Do you think that it should be English?

I am not against it. Having a national language can help businesses and the government to have a consistant way of communicating with customers and tax payers. It costs less money than to have forms in every language out there. They don't have to hire multi-lingual employees, and the employees can communicate with each other easily. So, it's common sense that every country should have an official language...for communication purposes.

What I am against is people who want French, Mandarin, Punjabi, etc speakers to go back to where they came from!

N8ivWarrior agrees with me!

If you have ever said such a thing in private, in public, or anywhere, please feel ashamed that you don't understand fully the history of your country, the meaning of the word "opportunity", and the concepts behind evolution and migration.

N8ivWarrior talks about why the United States does not have a national language, and concludes by saying "Suggesting a national language does not embrace our heritage, but dismisses it". The U.S is often called the land of opportunity for immigrants. However, the people who don't consider themselves as immigrants often don't understand the term "opportunity". Let me clarify. It does not mean that if my parents go to America, they will take the opportunity away from you. What it means is that there are opportunities for EVERYONE, as long as you are willing to compete fairly.

For those of you who have ever said "So and so should learn English and go back to where they came from if they don't".....

Has it ever occured to you that maybe it would be a great opportunity to learn another new language? Why should you when everyone in the world wants to learn English? Well...I have news for you. English is becoming out-dated. Yep, it's not as hot as you would like it to be. See, everything goes back to making money. Originally, a lot of people in non-English speaking countries wanted to learn English, because major businesses were conducted in English, and the money is in North America and Europe. And, if you want a piece of that pie, well, you have to learn English.

Now, it is different. The money is in China and India, and you will find more and more people wanting to learn Mandarin or Punjabi. By the way, there is a difference between Mandarin, Cantonese, and Taiwanese. To make things even more complicated for you, some people even speak Shanghainese, and Mandarin alone has 70 something different dialects, each is unique. So, please don't say that all Chinese people speak Chinese; it's just not the case, and you look uneducated when you say it.

So, please, learn another language, go beyond your comfort zone! You can do it! The next time you have the urge to tell someone to go back to where they came from, remember that the Americas is the New World, meaning that pretty much everyone here is from somewhere else. Remember that you are living in the land of opportunity and should actually take advantage of those opportunities sometimes (and for God Sakes, don't get mad at other people when you don't make the effort and others do). Remember that even the Natives can be traced back to Japan, and if you want to go back further, then back to Africa...

Granny Sex

If you want more 'interesting' mental pictures of all sorts of weird sexual situations, then visit 2BlogHumor. Between this blog and Blog4Humor, I have a healthy dose of information that I just don't want to know.

For example, you might think you want to know the secret to great sex, but do you really? I was curious enough to scroll down the page, but it was a bad idea. See, the real secret is that if you think you can't handle the joke, then just don't scroll down the page...right? Wrong. You can't help it. I mean, doesn't everyone what to know the secret to great sex? I couldn't help it, and now I am paying for it.

What made matters worse was another senior sex joke titled "Oh, Oh Here Comes Granny". Once again, if you think you can't handle it, it's probably not true.

So, I am not sure why there are so many of these pensioner/senior sex jokes on the blog, and I am beginning to suspect that the author might be fascinated by it!

Rob Is BACK!

So, Rob is back! The author of Rob in China has been 'missing' for the last months or so, and he has finally returned from his travels from rural China to bring the latest news and gossips to his web audience. It is also reported that he is now 20 pounds lighter, but still as good as before in posting great blog entries and pictures.

I have to admit that while he was gone, life was not the same. There was no laughter, and I am just glad that he is back!

How to be Productive

I used to believe that I was the quite productive. You know, I would read a lot of articles on productivity, and I could cite you many great tips on improving productivity from time management gurus. I even had all sorts of time management tools, such as day planners, PDAs, a calendar on Yahoo, and other tools to help me become more productive. Boy, was I ever good at to-do lists. I write them out, sometimes twice or three times, making sure it is nice and pretty and on the best paper possible.

Then, I started to wonder why I wasn't getting much done, yet was exhausted. The answer is that I was exhausted from all the time I spent on researching time management and productivity!

It is a vicious vicious cycle! I want to accomplish something, research it over and over again, then by the time I am ready to start, my mind could not handle any more thoughts and I am physically tired.

Since then, I am much better at being productive. The key is to just do it! The Future of the Web blog has an excellent article on productivity and time management. I like Jesse's point #4 on the list of tips. It was my weakness. The more time I put into reading productivity tips, the less time I had for actually completing a task. The most annoying thing was when I had to reschedule the same task over and over again because I would not get to it. This also was not very good on my self-esteem, as I constantly felt like a failure.

The key, as Jesse mentions too, is to JUST DO IT. I think ultimately, we all know how to be more productive. Sometimes, it's just pure lazyness....which was true in my case!

Cat Poop Coffee

My cat poops a lot, and my puppy loves to eat his poop. I am not sure if this is just a puppy thing or if all dogs love by-products. My cat is literally a food dispenser for the young puppy. No matter how he is disiplined, he continues to sit by the litter box waiting for his favorite food.

Would you ever eat cat poop? No seriously...would you?

She looks a bit concerned holding the Kopi Luwak Coffee. I guess she has every right to be considering that it is literally poop! The funny thing is a lot of the dealer sites guarantee authenticity. So, what happens when it's not authentic. Is it just straight poop?

Sex, Drama, and God

One of those things is completely out of my life.....and I hope you guessed "Drama"...ha!

In the Banana Smoothie blog, Mollie talks about her remembrances of junior year - it is a chronicle of the lessons she has learnt. I have to say that it is quite wise for someone so young. Often, it takes a lifetime to just realize that drama is unnecessary and we can choose to not allow it into our lives. Mary J Blige just realized that a few years ago!

Here is a few of the items on her list and my responses to them.

1. Taking sign language, probably the best thing I have EVER done.
Learning sign language is a great idea! I plan to teach baby sign to my future children, so that I am not guessing what they need all the time.

3. Changing my attitude. Being a bitch got me no where. Dressing like one didn’t either.
Yeah....it's good that Mollie is not going to dress like a b**** anymore, or act like one for that matter. People react to us to how they preceive, and usually acting or dressing like a b**** invite undesirable outcomes.

4. Sex, drugs, drinking= no no for mollz.
You can drink in moderation, as long as it's not excessive.

6. Coming back to God….Every thing that happens, he always comes to my mind. It’s a habit now.
Great idea. I am working on this one too. Just missed church this Sunday, and I guess that's the work of the devil ;)

Why Children Should Have Pets

The biggest heartaches from my life did not stem from men, rather from the experience of raising pets.

My father was fanatical about three things: cats, goldfish and a type of plants called Clivia. So, growing up, I was equally fanatical about them. Even being on my own, I have tried raising cats, goldfish and assorted plants. My experience with goldfish and plants were tragic, and I still have memories of goldfish floating on the water surface struggling to stay alive and don't even talk about plants with me, because they never live long. I know to water them, it's just that I am usually accidentally a few weeks late.

Cats, on the other hand, are easier to keep alive. It could be the fact that they can constantly bug you until you replenish their food suppy. So far, I have not killed any cats yet! This could also be because I am determined to keep them alive. When I was younger, one of my father's beloved cats died in my arms. Because we did not have pet insurance and did not have extra money, we could not afford to take the cat to the vet. Ever since, I have been determined to raise healthy cats.

My cat's health and dental insurance is better than my own. People think I am crazy, but honestly, I just don't want to take that chance again. I mean, it would be a shame to not be able to save my cat's life because I don't want to spend the money. So far, the insurance has been beneficial. I already dipped into $1200 when my cat had an intestinal infection, where he almost died. It was a close call!

I would recommend any type of pet insurance if you own pets. They are not only cute little furry toys, but also an important part of the family. If you have health insurance for your children, why not your pets?

Weird Ebay Items

I am becoming increasing annoyed with the people selling on Ebay. Little by little, the quality of Ebay merchandize decreases and the number of scams increase. It's hard to tell whether something is legit, and there is more crap than real products for sale. Then comes the really really weird Ebay items....

Like the margarine that looks like breasts. I am surprised that no one has reported seeing Jesus' face in the margarine yet....it will come...just be patient. Most of these items are just for a good laugh, or is it? This woman who claims that Jesus visits her is putting her "lessons" up for bids. For a cool $35,000 AU, she will speak to you for 2 hours (privately or publicly) and tell you the cure for cancer, the future, etc. I wonder how her auction is doing.

The Weird Auction Blog lists some of the weirdest and disgusting Ebay auctions. You can either a) Visit the blog to get a good laugh or b) shake your head in disbelieve and annoyance. I did (b) when I read about the Fart in a Bottle item. Hmm...who would buy a "fart that has never been smelled before"?

Celebrities, millionaires, and fantasy cars, oh my!

The other day, my boss invited me to his home to play poker with 2 others. I declined due to my schedule, but it reminded me of how popular poker is becoming. How did it happen? I mean, a few years ago, no one obsessively played poker. Overnight, desperate housewives are hosting poker parties with margaritas, employees are playing online poker at work, millions of poker blogs came out of no where, and every channel seems to show poker tournaments.

Now, I read about news of huge winnings or celebrities losing luxury cars at poker matches. It's just too much for me! Paris Hilton lost a $150,000 bentley at a recent poker match. Now, an online poker site is giving the opportunity to win a brand new bentley if she beats Mike Sexton, a poker legend. Humm...I wonder who will win, and what she has to give up if she loses ;)

One thing that this Poker craze has created is the chance for common everyday people to walk away with millions. You can register for a tournament with $25.00, and walk away with a cool 2 million. Take this guy for example, he registered for the tournament with $25.00 at Paradise Poker, and moved up the ladder to come second place. Luckily for this guy, the winning is in cash. What happens when you win something like the new Lotus Elise? This woman took her winning and headed directly for Ebay!

Top 10 TV Shows of All Time...at least for me

Awhile ago, I was challenged to come up with my own Top 10 Shows of All Time. The challenger was Rick Stabile, the author of the Just Watch TV blog, and I am going to accept that challenge today by posting my Top 10 TV Shows of All Time.

Forgive me, as this may seem very immature, and you can see from my list of shows that I have not fully grown up yet. I still mock black and white television programs and can't understand why people ever want to watch seniors on television. Born in 1979, I watched mostly Japanese cartoons, animes, popular eighties teen series like "Saved By the Bell"(which is still one today!), "21 Jump Street" (filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia), "Full House", and "Who is the Boss?".

In the nineties, television programming trends moved towards daytime soaps and trashy talk shows, and "Beverly Hills 90210", "Cheers", "Friends", and "Melrose Place" dominated primetime programming. Boy, this is bringing back memories of teenage angst!

As we move into the millennium, reality TV arrives! As hard as I try to avoid watching reality TV, I am deeply drawn to it and it just can’t be helped. A typical week starts with “The Apprentice” on Mondays, “American Idol” on Tuesday, “America’s Next Top Model” on Wednesdays, and “Survivor” on Thursdays. I feel a bit lost on Fridays, and that’s when I resort to Star Trek reruns and documentary movies. I often compare my affinity to reality TV to that of Britney Spears. I mean, come on, her songs are cleverly marketed and they are just so catchy! In spite of what people say about her, she was a giant in the music industry and the product of some very smart branding and marketing.

Okay, I am deviating from the original topic, so here we go.

1) The Smurfs – I am a sucker for nostalgia, and I consider my smurf watching days the most relaxing, stress-free, and problem-free time of my life! It’s an animated series about small blue creations who live in mushroom houses, deep in the forest somewhere in Europe. My fiancé says they are actually the by-product of a bad acid trip, but that’s yet to be confirmed.

Who wouldn’t want to watch cousins falling in love (but kept a part by evil people!), corruption and blackmail, rich blue-blood heiresses frolicking around, all leading to a tragic end.

3) Star Trek Voyager– Great science fiction. You can’t go wrong with sexy Borg drones, a holographically projected computer program doctor with attitude, powerful omnipotent Qs, and species 8472, oh my!

4) The Oprah Show – I try to catch 45 minutes of her show daily, even sacrificing my nap time between jobs. She opens up people’s eyes to what’s going on in the rest of the world, and I deeply appreciate the daily reminders of how fortunate I am to be living here.

5) Darwin’s Nightmare – Actually, it is a very recent documentary on the effect of perch fishing in Victoria Like (Tanzania). After watching the show, you will think about the implications of foreign involvement in Africa.

6) The Long Way Round – 2 men, 2 bikes and 20,000miles. It’s a little documentary series on OLN with Ewan McGregor and his friend Charley Boorman. .They traveled 20,000 miles around the world on motorcycles. You really get to see some great places in the world and the strength of their friendship.

7) The Amazing Race – Adventures, traveling, and a lot of money all in one show!

8) American Idol – I enjoy the first few shows where they screen all the contestants. Yes, I do like some bad singing.

9) South Park – Clever cartoon with great political messages.

In a recent posting at 2Bloghumor, I came across a joke about the different conversations men and women have about hair cuts. Sure, women often have lengthy conversations about hair cuts, and we are pretty defensive about what people say about our hair. So, the conversation usually goes like this.

Then, I started to think about whether this is still true. After thinking about it, I decided that the times are changing! Men are becoming more and more comfortable with products, purchases, and services that were once only designed for women. Decades ago, men did not go to spas, and now, they are becoming a large portion of spa customers. They are even getting their eyebrows plucked, threaded and all sorts of weird things only women do.

You may say "Sure, only gay men do that!"...but that's not true. A lot of professional heterosexual men are becoming more picky about their appearance.

Another thought I had after visiting 2Bloghumor was that advertisings are still not daring enough today. I'd like to see ads that shock me! Perhaps, I need to move to Europe for now (there seems to be quite a few daring ads coming out of Europe). Now, why can't this be made into a TV commercial, it would be a riot!

Are we cannibals and are not even aware of it?!?!

When I was younger, I had a great diet that consisted of mostly vegetables, rice and fruits. Then, I grew up, and everything went downhill. Today, I eat more meat and fast food than before. After trying to curb my diet for awhile by not eating at MacDonalds, I felt better, but meat is still an important part of my diet.

See, over the years, I have tried, by reading books like "The Fast Food Nation". While I understand that fast food and meat are bad for me, they are just too convenient and too darn delicious!

Recently, I have been reading Palatable - a blog about the dangers of eating meat and processed foods. The author has been in the industry for a long time, and he reports first hand experiences from the fast food and processing industry. It is a blog with a purpose. If you ever wondered what exactly may be in your processed meat, you may be surprised to find that you can be paying for more than just meat!

I was quite disgusted after reading some of Palatable's postings. However, he has some great advice. For example, the article about the dirty pop cans is a must read. If I read the artcle earlier, I would have completely avoided my stomach problems the other day. There are so many different ways for germs and virus to get into our mouths. Most of us are too oblivious to the dangers we are facing everyday.

What a privilege to look into the world of someone like Cat, who is living with Multiple Personality Disorder. Most people are lead to believe, either through movies or TV, that it is a cool place where girls bond and have incredible amount of fun while having success with their treatment. I think the reality is far from it, and sometimes treatments can be a life long struggle with patients who do not make it.

Cat writes candidly about her anger issues, and her struggle to keep it in check, her voices, and how she sometimes has to talk to them just to be able to sleep. I really enjoyed the entry about her visit to the Child Trauma Unit, and how she was quick and clever!

While reading Cat's blog, you can't help but to feel for her struggles. At some points, you just want to reach out to her and tell her "No! Don't attack the nurse!. At the same time, you know that life just cannot be that easy for someone who has suffered tremendously and cannot control which personality will surface in a tense situation.

I think blogging is a great outlet for Cat, and I enjoyed reading her entries. Life is complicated as it is for people with no mental illnesses, so it makes complaining about our day to day problems trivial. Welcome Cat, to Buy-a-Groupie, and I hope your journey on the web helps you to find the support and love you deserve.

The eloquent language, flow of ideas, and the sarcasm all make this the type of blog I LOVE to read. The bonus is of course, the author almost always have a point!

The N8ivWarrior blog is a classic in a league of its own. The design is simple, there are no ads, the content is excellent, and the author is genuinely funny. He challenges us to think about the quirky or important things in our lifes. In a posting called "Deep Rooted Fear", you are held in suspense wondering what kind of fear can make a person willing to sell his children.....as it turns out - toilet paper - HA!

How about some serious matters? Then, read John's article on immigration, which sparked a great debate, or movies from another culture, where he questions why Americans are so contained in their own culture and are afraid to venture out. There is quite a bit of blog "fan" participation, and I think I may be useless to him at times.

The curious thing about the blog is that John seems to be QUITE fascinated with bodily functions. Let's see....there is Urinal Etiquette, The Misleading Bean (I was fascinated by how John's thoughts went from having a healthy heart to...breaking wind), Unveiling the Mystery (the battle of the sexes when it comes to the toilet seat), and Shhh..Not So Loud (yes, it is about burping). So, John, am I missing something? What is it with the bodily function entries? Don't get me wrong, they are extremely funny, especially when you make it so serious by having a point.

My take on John's N8ivWarrior blog is that it will be a success. He only started a few months ago, and there is already a following. You know why? Because he is smart! How smart is he? He is so smart that he did an entry on yours truly - the Buy-A-Groupie site!. Now, how smart is that?? Now that it is a part of his blog, readers can be directed here, where his site will be promoted, and they can love him even more - by far the smartest cookie so far!

I have been a Groupie for Rob In China for awhile now. In fact, he was my first customer. A major reason why his blog is so popular is because of the pictures. Sometimes, taking the time to look for the most perfect picture to explain your entry can pay off big time.

I spend most of my day surfing blogs, posting comments or just reading what people have to say. To Leave or Not to Leave

Awhile back, I saw ZHANG YIMOU’s “Hero” in the movie theatre. The trailer could be viewed as misleading, as it states that it’s a film by Quentin Tarantino. So, in the theatre, the movie starts, and while we knew that it was going to be subtitled, apparently some people did not. The next thing that happens is some awkward coughing and some quick body movements, as some people slipped out of the theatre.

I thought they were brave. Even if I thought the movie was going to be horrible, I would have still stayed. Darn it, I paid for the tickets so at least I should get a couple hours of good snoozing. Mostly, it is because I just don’t have the guts to leave. Is it ever appropriate to leave a movie theatre in the middle of a movie? The Just Watch TV blog tackles this question with a funny piece called “Just Watch TV goes to the Movies: To Leave or Not to Leave.”

The worst experience I had was suffering at the hands of my husband’s trickery. He bribed me to watch “Torque”. On one hand, I would like Just Watch TV to review this movie, on the other hand, please don’t, it’s just boring and has no real substance. I would not want to put them through this. So, in the middle of the movie, my arms are numb because the theatre is freezing. The music was blaring, and I thought maybe that was the dialogue….dialogue or no dialogue, it would not have made a difference. Then, there was that smirk on my husband’s face, the one that says….yeah, this is the most exciting bad-a** movie ever. Do I leave? No….but I made absolutely clear to him that I was suffering for his happiness.

Under Funny Jokes, I found an entry that is particularly true! I am not sure if this was the product of the webmaster, but the points raised there makes one contemplate their validity. The author states that:

Have you ever returned a video late? Well, I have. After a few days, the phone calls start to come in, and you feel like the worst human being on earth because you forgot to drop off "American Psycho". For God sakes, it wasn't even a good movie!

If you want some truth in your jokes, then visit the Funny News section, where you can read about the Hot Lady Looking for Love, who posted an ad in the Atlantic Journal. It is really really funny and a great example of clever advertising! Dick Cheney is always good for a laugh, especially since his shooting "accident". Joke vaults must have increased 3 fold since his happy finger pulled the trigger.

The most educational piece is by far The Origin of the "F" Word. Coincidentally, the other day at work, my colleagues and I had a heated argument over the origina of the F word. After a few minutes of searching on the net, we came to the same conclude as this joke suggests. It is actually not a joke, but more like the truth.

So, what does PMS stand for? At Blog4Humor, you can find various versions, all making you think of one thing: this is not what I thought it stood for...

See, I thought I was being a good girl, being a groupie for all sorts of sites, ranging from financial ones to some more technical ones. So for, the most light-hearted blog here is about China. That is until Blog4Humor. Scanning it the first time, I felt like I was in a dirty movie store, hiding my face and glancing at the raunchy pictures when no one is looking and giggling.

Blog4Humor is blog with a combination of funny pictures, jokes and funny new stories. It is a must read for anyone who is looking for a pick-me-upper!

My favorite is the funny true story section, where you can find out exactly what "free spirt" means in internet dating terms. Be sure to read both versions, the one for woman and the one for men. Being curious, and perhaps just want to have a good laugh, sometimes I read personal ads. At least, now I know what "Athletic open-minded male who wants friendship first" really means. There is also something for the idealist women at Blog4Humor; I learnt quite a bit about the REAL way men think. Actually, what I learnt was that women are now exposed. Pictures can say so much, and at Blog4Humor, you will get your dose of funny pictures. As the author is building the site, you will see more selections in the future. But, for now, check out the endearing picture of Hillary petting the dog in Clinton's crotch.....yes, it's very endearing :) My favorite is the blonde one, everyone loves a good blonde picture.

What about blonde jokes? Well, you won't find one there now, but there is plenty of sick jokes and ones that take a bit of thinking, at least for me. After reading Smart Momma, I paused, thought "Why would it matter where the silver bowl is?", paused some more, thought some more, then...."OH!"....hehe....I am slow sometimes. Yes, she is a smart mom!

I had a few good laughs at Blog4Humor. Even though I felt like a dirty little groupie, it was worth it. In particular, I enjoyed the lists of internet dating terms' definitions and the list of what men really think. It is definitely a must read for women and men!

While I share the passion for some of the shows listed, but I am completely baffled at the others. What is the Ernie Kovacs show??? Ernie who? Is this show also in black and white? Um...I don't understand...how can shows in black and white be any good! There are others on the list whose names I can't even pronounce, and I have never seen THESE actors on Entertainment Tonight. And, where are the "bling-blings" Bob Newhart?

I was born in 1979, borderline eighties. I have heard of the Twight Zone, Star Trek (which I like!), Babylon 5 and Seinfeld, but I could hardly consider them in the Top Ten! Seinfeld's popularity baffles me too. I have yet to be able to sit through one single episode, yet the show had millions upon millions of fans. Is it because I am vain, and there is no one good looking on the show? Perhaps, the reason why I like Star Trek is because there can always be some good looking actors, and Captain Picard can be hot when I am not wearing glasses!!

Rick challenged me to make my own list of Top Ten. I haven't got to it yet. In the mean time, I enjoy criticizing and also making fun of his list. If you are a fan of say.....the Twight Zone (God forbid), then go to Just Watch TV and let him know. He needs all the support he can get :)

Have you ever seen those boring "recipe" blogs? Yes, the ones with Google adsense ads all over the pages and no real personal content at all. It is great to know how to make turkey step by step, but why read recipes from a blog when I can just to to the Martha Stewart website and countless other websites with millions of original recipes? I am quite certain that the point of these blogs is to fuel the Google adsense ads.

I like food, whether it's cooked, raw (as in Sushi), smoked, sautayed or whichever form it comes in. So, if you like food and food related personal stories, then visit Palatable!

One particular story that disturbs me is the author's first hand experience working at a bakery company. If you ever wonder the kind of foul things that can contaminate your grocery purchases, then you should head on over there to find out. I am not one to fool myself thinking that all purchased food is clean, but it is still quite disturbing to find out exactly what can be found in my food! Watch out for the cinnamon rolls!

There happens to be a lot of quite "gross" yet fascinating stories in Palatable, all of which are personal to the author, while keeping the food theme. In an entry appropriately titled "Thirsty?", I was horrified to find out that the author's daughter was offered apple juice that did not quite turn out to be full of.....well...apple juice. So, think of what else looks like apple juice and you can get the idea.

After snooping around the site for awhile, I had this strange craving for chicken feet. Now, I love chicken feet, especially soy chicken feet. Think what you like, but they are awsome with beer...sort of like peanut substitutes. And, what do you know, you can find a recipe for making delicious chicken feet here! The reason why chicken feet can be so popular is because the skin soaks up all the different flavours of the sauce. I never understood why white chicken breast meat is so much more popular. It tastes like nothing! Just be aware to not eat too much chicken feet, because it is high in cholesterol.

So, with titles like "Do You Like Pubic Flavored Ice Cream", "What's In Your Beer?", you will slowly begin to realize that in fact this is a blog that warns people about the pit-falls of commerically prepared foods. Your stomach will begin to turn inside out as you read some of the stories, but you will either laugh a lot or not want to eat for awhile. Since I am a fan of organic foods, I value the messages in Palatable. Also, with the recent removal of the Google Adsense ads, you will not be distracted!

My Mother Was Wrong!

If my mother could read this posting, she would strangle me and write me out of her will. I am announcing to the world that my mother was terribly wrong in not allowing me to watch TV as a child!

When I was young, I loved to watch TV. In particular, I liked the Discovery Channel or any shows on traveling. Now, that's not so bad, was it? Does watching hours and hours of Discovery Channel warrant punishment? Did she have to take my delicious watermelons away? Was it really necessary to cancel cable all together on four separate occasions?

Now, I would like her to know that watching TV is good for children! The Just Watch TV blog just released an articled with the aforementioned title, and you have to read it. I have always questioned why studies show TV watching is bad for children. I learnt a lot from TV, and I still continue to learn most of what I know from TV. Sure, these days I watch a lot of reality TV, but I pick up some valuable information! Heck, I even pick up a few words by watching foreign programmings.

What will my mother say about this now!??

The moral of the story is that balance is important. My parents gave me a balanced life, and I turned out okay......umm....didn't I?

When visiting the Rob In China site, I realized that Rob is gone! Now, all the fans are asking the same question:" Where in the world is Rob?" and "Where are his witty pictures?".

Upon some investigation, (well, I actualy just read the posting, no real investigation involved), the mystery is solved. Rob is sick after eating some delicious sesame beef. Here is a picture of Rob's secret location.

I would like Rob to know that eating that much beef is not good for him. Does he know that it takes something like 48 hours to digest that beef?

The good news is that Rob's site is receiving great rankings according to Alexa (top 100,000 on the web, and 25,000 page views per month). Also, his fans are rallying behind him, all wishing him to feel better soon.

I like a mixture of humour and facts in blogs, and that is why I enjoy reading Rob's blog. In the last week or so, I have laughed and giggled and laughed and giggled some more, all while reading his postings.

Usually, I visit his site daily, because I post comments on his stories, but once in awhile I go back when I don't even need to, just to check out the funny pictures again. They are great conversation pieces amongst friends. The posting with the fat ebay man taking a picture of the kettle is priceless. Or, how about the four naked men crammed in a sauna room drinking beer. I work for a giant cable & telecommunication company, and for the most part of my graveyard shift, I watch TV while working. Recently, I have been addicted to reality T.V. Mondays - The Apprentice, Tuesdays/Wednesdays - American Idol and America's Next Top Model, and Thursdays - Survivors. I am at a lose as to what to watch on Fridays, because there are no reality shows. Fridays absolutely scream of boredom!!

When visiting the "Just Watch T.V" website, I realized that I have not been watching any shows of substance for awhile. When did a new Doctor Who series come out?? While I know about the new controversy involving South Park and Issac Hayes, but when did the 'Bloody Mary" episode come out and why did it anger the Catholic League? And, I think of myself as a pretty good reality show follower, but when did Ashton Kutcher come out with another show other than "Punked". I am terribly disturbed at the possibility that I may not be watching enough T.V.

Just Watch T.V is created by Rick and his wife Maureen; they will give you their witty personal thoughts on movies, sit-coms, documentaries, or whatever they think is interesting or uninteresting. Sometimes, it is a little bit too witty for me. Being the reality T.V fan that I am, come on Rick, was it really necessary to say "Can We Stop with the 'Reality' shows already"? And why isn't the Amazing Race on your Top Ten Shows list?!? I am outraged! However, I do agree whole heartedly that the Brady Bunch should just die and go away.

The husband and wife team not only dishes out thoughts on T.V shows, you can also find reviews of currently playing movies like Syrianna, V for Veageance (what a waste of money!), Brokeback Mountain, the Producers, etc. In the same category of "Films", you can also find out who should win the Oscars for newly created categories like Worst-Dressed Woman, Worst-Dressed Men, and Sorest winners. Personally, I thought Jennifer Lopez was the worst dressed woman, but once again, who am I to judge that :)

All in all, I have to say that there are some very funny pieces. My favorite is the Cartoon Category, where I found postings that explain to me in detail what blondes are doing in Japanese animes, or what's the deal with boys and nosebleeds. Okay, my question now is if blondes are non-Japanese characters, then what about characters with blue, green, or pink hair. So, let's look at Sailor Moon and the bunch, they have rainbow hair colors! Perhaps pink indicates a young character and green/blue hair indicates foreigners or Japanese characters who dyed their hair?!? I don't dare to venture that far into the answer to this question, and will leave it to Just Watch T.V. to explore in future postings.

I enjoy Rick and Maureen's website in spite of their bashing of Reality TV, and recommend it for all of you who just love good-old-fashion sit-coms, Sci-Fi films or just want to have a good laugh while reading about why watching Curling on TV can be fun or explore you and your spouse's cinematic-codependency and find out why it's so darn hard to leave while watching a bad movie.

China is one of those places where a lot so weird and wacky things happen. Unfortnately, on the news these days, you will only hear about more mainstream topics. Some of the bizarre stories include Housekeepers in Great Demand. China Sets up First College of Household Management, or my personal favorite Pet Funeral Rip-Off's On The Rise In China, which was just posted today.

The North American Invasion of China
China's economy is developing at an exponential rate, and with this comes great changes to its landscape and pop culture. One article in particular (Wal-Mart and Carrefour plan to accelerate store openings in China) talks about Walmart wanting to open close to 20 new stores in China just in 2006. A decade ago, purchasing in such superstores was unheard of, and now mostly everyone in China knows about Walmart, Starbucks, Kentucky Fried Chicken, etc. It seems every major country has a share of the China pie some how. Before reading Rob's article, I was under the impression that only the major North American stores were involved in this expansion of capitalism, but it seems that other countires are involved as well. For example, I was not aware that Thailand's (Lotus Supercentre) and France's (Carrefour Supercenter) supercenters are ranked higher than Walmart!

You HAVE to See the Hilarious Pictures
I think the best thing about Rob's blog is the pictures that go along with the bizarre newspaper articles. Most of the pictures is an exaggeration of the news reported, and each is well suited for the content.

So, You Want to Make Money in China
Along with Rob, I also agree that China is the place to be to make money. Just by reading some of the weird articles, you can get new business ideas and how others are making it there. It is literally THE profit center for the future. For example, while reading Man Gets Caught After Robbing Same Shop Twice, I was thinking that someone should introduce the Bait Car idea to China to deter car thefts. Then, while reading Pet Funeral Rip-Off's On The Rise In China, some light bulbs came on, and I thought of the possibility of introducing vet insurance, posh pet parlors, and luxurious pet resort ideas to China. The possibilities are endless!

Nice, Easy, Relaxing Reads
I've read a lot of boring blogs, and this is NOT one of those. It is lighthearted, gets to the point, and you will surely get a laugh from the pictures. Also, if you want to be educated on China's happenings through weird, bizarre, and wacky news stories, Rob's blog is the place to be.
